“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose…” — Ecclesiastes 3:1
The blessing of community is to be surrounded by friends and those who know you when there are joys, and when there are sorrows. Our clergy is there to walk you through the valley of the shadow of death when there is loss. We create funeral or memorial services that reflect your loved one, and your family needs. We often bury at Ivy Lawn, here in Ventura, as well as Jewish cemeteries in the LA area. We will officiate at burials of cremains, and at memorial services, where no casket is present. Temple members may choose to hold services in the warm and familiar surroundings of our sanctuary.
We encourage families to begin the healing process through the ritual of shivah- sitting for the week after burial. Most of our families will choose a one day, or three day shivah period, although Jewish tradition is a seven-day period. Rabbis, cantors, or lay leaders will be arranged to lead brief evening services in your home during shivah, and facilitate an opportunity to reminisce about your loved one. If appropriate to your situation, a platter from the Harold Dressler Chevra Fund will be sent to your home, and members of our Sisterhood will help in your home while you are receiving condolences.
